You know that feeling of being in a situation which seems to go in a completely different direction than you wanted it to? Have you ever had a conversation, which moved into another direction than you intended? Do you feel misunderstood sometimes? Do you ever catch yourself being confused about what exactly you wanted?
Don’t worry, I got you. It’s time to clear your intentions!
Your intention is what you aim for, and you should always aim for something. In each day, each moment, and each situation. And no, constantly having an intention and wanting to achieve, create or receive something is not selfish, nor is it reprehensible. It’s a good thing indeed, because it helps you and others to communicate and interact more efficiently and peacefully. It’s all a matter of what your intentions are. And depending on how mindful you usually are, figuring this out can be pretty tough.
Let’s take this situation as an example
You feel hurt by a friend, because they behaved very inconsiderately, so you take initiative and start a conversation with them. Instead of listening they feel offended and begin to list past events, in which they feel you behaved inappropriate. Both of you start attacking each other and you end up having a big fight.
To prevent unwanted twists like that, getting aware of your intention can be really helpful. If you think of it your intention was never to start a fight, or cause any hurt. Actually you aimed for a return to the supportive relationship, based on love and trust, you and your friend usually share. This was why you started the conversation in the first place.
Getting conscious of what we really want before we enter a situation, and then trying to stay in alignment with our aim throughout this situation, can change the quality of our relationship to ourselves and others.
Let’s take another example:
Your dream is to become a famous and rich author.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am the last person telling you to not dream big, but intentions like these won’t get you far. I even bet these things are not what you’re actually aiming for. So what is it then you want? Let’s get to the core of your wish.
I’d say it’s true that you want to be an author. However I believe what you mean by famous is actually that as many people as possible have access to your work and read and appreciate it. You want to share the worlds and stories you create, and make yourself a name off your creativity and passion. Furthermore what you mean by rich is making money by doing what you love, to be precisely, enough that you don’t have to do anything else.
Clarifying and purifying your intentions behind your thoughts, behaviour and wishes like that, gives you focus and helps you to manifest anything faster and in higher quality.
Another fun thing to do is to set yourself an intention for the day. Like: being productive, being mindful, letting go of anything I do not longer need, having fun, being present, choosing healthy options where possible (mentally and physically), being kinder to myself than yesterday etc and then trying to let this intention guide you through your day.
I myself tend to forget the intentions behind my actions sometimes. When I catch myself not being in alignment with them I take a step back, take a few seconds to become mindful and then change my course. Remember- it is never to late to change your course and start with a fresh mindset!
Have a great day and be kind to yourself! x Lotta
